Awful Records can’t seem to lose with a slew of releases over the last month or so. I wasn’t expecting to hear another full Abra project until later this year, but the Darkwave Duchess doesn’t care about expectations. “Rose” is 12 tracks deep, allowing for full immersion in her experimental 80s/90s synth-pop, R&B sound. Abra produced all the sounds on this one, so it’s only right she is calling herself “Phil Collins with 808s”. I know when it’s time to choose my favorite albums from 2015, it will be hard choice between Rose and BLQ VELVET. Fuck it, I might just end up choosing both.
*Update 12|15|15* Abra has remained a consistent force in 2015 with two stellar albums and a host of Awful features. No surprise she dropped another visual, “Fruit”, to close out the year and solidify her dominance. Don’t forget to stream Rose below the vid.
Recommendation: Pride, ROSES XOXO, Tonight!, No Chill
